Do You Know Your History?

There is a major problem in America right now. It's destructive and deadly to each and everyone of us. What is it? It's a lack of knowledge, and the even worse, a veiling of America's beginnings as a Christian nation. You see it daily, wherever you are, or whatever you do. People either have no clue, or they are striving to strip away the fact that this wonderful nation of ours is founded upon Christian principles.

As I stated in my previous post, I have been doing some studies of my own. One of my studies has to do with this subject of America's start as a Christian nation. I believe that it is imperative for every single Christian American to know the facts behind our nations history. I find that it is essential to have your facts straight so that you will know how to answer every man, with grace and wisdom, when your beliefs are challenged.

One of the books I have been studying, is "Of Plymouth Plantation, Bradford's History of the Plymouth Settlement 1608-1650". What a remarkable book this is. It is Governor Bradford's, diary of the Plymouth settlement in New England. The purpose in publishing this book is to show America, their Christian heritage.

As I have said, there is a need to reexamine the purpose of our country, by going back and examining the very founding of our country, seen in this book as the Plymouth Plantation colony. By doing so, we see what GOD intended for our country through self-government, as exemplified by the colonists determination and convictions, to be ruled by GOD's standards, and not man's.

As seen in this book, prior to the pilgrims departure to the New World from Holland, they had such a deep understanding of GOD's word, that even though they were in the world, they were not of it. Because they were not of it, they saw the need to move to a place where they could raise their children, in the fear and admonition of the LORD. Even when it meant facing perilous seas, and a possible unwelcome arrival from the natives.

But the pilgrims realized that GOD was in control of all, and if it was HIS will they be there, nothing could stop them. They knew that there was a place needed, where Christ could reign supreme in their lives, a place where all human life was sacred ( a far cry away from today's pro abortion movement ), and all GOD given liberties were to be protected.

So they set out for unknown, hostile territory, to seek GOD's will. You know the rest of the story. Over half the population died that first winter, but GOD was with them, and sent help in the form of the Wamponoags. And the settlement thrived for the glory of the the LORD, and so on and so forth.

Because we as Americans, in general, do not have a basic knowledge of the basis and founding of our republic, is it any wonder we now suffer under an almost tyrannical form of rule? We daily see, our rights slipping away, all because we have turned from the Creator and Saviour of the universe, and have chosen to thrust HIM out of everything, and attempted to eradicate HIM from history!

We as Christians today, can alert people to the onslaught of a God-forsaken tyranny. Only when America heeds GOD's call to humble ourselves, and seek HIM, will HIS grace be shown.

That is why I am learning all that I can. I want to stand up for my LORD and Saviour in this dark and dying generation. I want my small part of life to be a candle, to be an influence, to be used by GOD, to help those that are within my circle of influence, to see how wonderful HE is. I realize now how crucial it is to be a witness for Christ, to a nation dying and literally going to hell. I want to show people GOD's mercy and forgiveness in my actions! I want people to not see me, but Christ, in HIS amazing love and glory! I want people to see HIM and want HIM in their lives as well. Only when we seek the LORD's guidance in this area, will the fire spread, and lives will be changed.

Governor Bradford expressed this quite eloquently-

"Thus out of small beginnings, greater things have grown by HIS hand, Who made all things out of nothing, and gives being to all things that are; and as one small candle may light a thousand, so the light en kindled here has shone to many, yea, in a sense, our whole nation; let the glorious name of Jehovah have all the praise."

I hope these thoughts will inspire you to learn more about America's roots. Head to your local library, or do some research on the web. Find books that show our nations heritage as a Christian nation. Get into your Bible daily, and ask GOD to show you what you can do in your life for HIM.

I pray that you all have a wonderful day! Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Wow! That is so true, Angel! It's sad to see what our world is coming to...our nation just can't make it without Christ, and He is the very one they are trying to push out of our lives! I couldn't agree more with everything you said. :)

    Blessings,
    Moriah
